Preparing your estimate

Their purchase price. Your negotiating perspective.

Debt buyers purchase large portfolios of defaulted accounts, often at a substantial discount to the balances owed. This is the wholesale market. Your result estimates what your account might represent within a bulk purchase, not what you must offer to settle it.

The full balance is a demand, not proof that there is no room to negotiate. A discounted purchase can leave substantial room between acquisition cost and the amount requested. Understanding that gap can help you make an informed, affordable proposal.

You can propose a lower settlement. Acceptance is not guaranteed, and the purchase price does not change the amount legally owed. Some collectors work for creditors and have not purchased your debt.

You control access. This version reads a report you choose on this device. We do not sign in to credit bureaus, pull your credit, store your report, or contact creditors. It provides an automated, guided review, not a human credit-counseling service. Never provide credit-bureau passwords or your Social Security number. Redact sensitive identifiers before choosing a file. Reader software loads from jsDelivr; report contents stay on your device.

Review recognized report text

This reader does not reliably identify every account or determine which entries are errors. Compare the original report and enter each account once below, even if it appears on multiple bureau reports.

Add a verified account to your plan

Only include funds remaining after essential living costs, required payments and an emergency cushion. Do not stop paying current accounts to fund a settlement.

YOUR LETTER. YOUR NEXT STEP.

Turn a collection letter into an offer.

Photograph a letter or choose a scan. Review what it says, choose an affordable amount, and prepare a letter in your own name. Nothing is sent to the collector.

Your documents stay on this device. Text recognition and drafting run in your browser. Files, extracted text and drafts are not uploaded to our server, retained by us or used to refine the pricing model. The reader downloads software and language files from jsDelivr; that service receives ordinary connection information, not your letter.

English letters · JPG, PNG, WebP or PDF · up to 5 files, 15 MB total and 10 PDF pages. For HEIC images, export as JPG first. Photograph each page straight on in good light. You can also paste text or enter details manually.

Recognition can misread names, amounts and account numbers. Compare every detail with the original. This tool does not verify the collector or whether the debt is yours.

Choose what you can afford. We do not automatically use the wholesale estimate as your offer.

Before making an offer on old debt, check applicable state law: a payment or promise may restart the time limit for a lawsuit in some states. A “no admission” sentence does not guarantee protection. This draft does not answer a lawsuit or extend any deadline. Read CFPB guidance.

UNDERSTAND THE BUSINESS

Why ask for 100% after buying at a discount?

They price the whole portfolio

Buyers do not expect to recover every dollar from every account. Purchase prices reflect uncertain recoveries and the cost of collection. They may still seek the full legally collectible balance from an individual consumer to increase recoveries across the portfolio.

You can ask for a different outcome

A settlement below the full balance can still make economic sense to a buyer. There may be meaningful negotiating room. The gap is not all profit: it also covers unsuccessful collections, operating costs and risk. It does not establish a guaranteed discount on your account.

You have a voice in this conversation. Verify the debt. Know your budget. Ask what settlement options are available. An opening demand does not have to be your opening offer.

03 / YOUR NEXT CONVERSATION

Turn understanding into negotiating power.

Use the estimate as context, not a promised settlement price. Choose an offer based on verified debt, your rights and what you can realistically afford.

01

Verify what you owe

Confirm the creditor, collector, balance and debt details before negotiating. Ask for information if something is unfamiliar.

02

Check your position

For older debt, check the applicable state rules before paying or promising payment. In some states, either can restart the time limit for a lawsuit. Do not ignore court papers.

03

Agree in writing

Ask whether a lower amount would resolve the debt. Do not promise payments you cannot sustain. Obtain a written settlement agreement before paying, including how the remaining balance will be handled. Settlement does not guarantee removal from your credit report.
